CRIF Credit Report and CRIF High Mark Score Explained

A CRIF credit report is your borrowing record as kept by CRIF, one of India's four RBI-registered credit bureaus, and its CRIF score runs from 300 to 900 (CRIF). The bureau is now called CRIF Credit Information Services, formerly CRIF High Mark. You can get one full CRIF credit report free each calendar year from its website.

What Is CRIF High Mark?
CRIF High Mark is an Indian credit bureau. Banks, NBFCs and other lenders send it data on the loans and cards you hold, and it turns that data into a CRIF credit report and a score. Lenders pull the report when you apply for credit.
Its parent, CRIF, is an international credit information group. In India, the bureau serves banks, NBFCs, insurance companies and telecom firms, according to CRIF's own site.
The report follows the same broad layout as other Indian reports: personal details, accounts, month-by-month payment history and enquiries. Our guide on how to read your credit report walks through each section. Everything there applies to a CRIF report.
CRIF also makes two kinds of score. A personal credit score rates you as an individual. A business credit score (often called a commercial score) rates a company. This article is about the personal one.
GroScore is a free credit score app and personal credit coach from Vitrak Technologies (GroMo). It shows your Equifax credit score and full report with a soft check that never affects your score, explains in Hindi or English what is holding the score back, and gives a step-by-step plan to fix it. GroScore is not a lender. It doesn't show your CRIF score or CRIF report. For those, go to CRIF.

CRIF High Mark's New Name, Explained
Seen "CRIF Credit Information Services" on a loan document and wondered who that is? It's the same bureau.
The company's registered name is now CRIF Credit Information Services Pvt. Ltd. Its website describes it as "formerly CRIF High Mark Credit Information Services Pvt. Ltd." The RBI's list of credit information companies shows it under the new name, next to TransUnion CIBIL, Equifax and Experian.
What changed for you? Nothing practical changes. Your history, your free annual report and your dispute rights all carry on. The website is still crifhighmark.com. People still search "CRIF High Mark" and "highmark credit score", and lenders often say "CRIF" for short.

It's the same bureau and the same report under a shorter name.
CRIF Score Range: What Counts as Good?
CRIF scores run from 300 to 900. In CRIF's words, "300 is the lowest score indicating poor credit score and 900 is the highest score possible." Its FAQ adds that "a score above 700 is generally considered good." The other bureaus use the same 300 to 900 scale, and our Experian credit score guide shows how that bureau's range reads.
GroScore's guidance is a little stricter. It treats 750 and above as good, 600 to 749 as fair and below 600 as the zone where approvals get hard (groscore.in).
| CRIF score | GroScore band | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| 300 to 599 | Poor | Most lenders hesitate, and offers cost more. |
| 600 to 749 | Fair | Credit is possible, often at a higher rate. CRIF calls 700+ good. |
| 750 to 900 | Good | Better rates and quicker decisions are common. |
Why the two views? A bureau describes its own scale. A coach plans for the strictest lender you might face. Either way, the lender's cut-off decides, and it varies. Actual offers vary by lender, income and credit profile.
Is the CRIF Score Important for a Loan?
Yes. RBI rules say every bank and NBFC must be a member of all four credit bureaus, and since 1 July 2026 lenders have reported your accounts weekly (RBI). A lender is free to pull your CRIF report instead of, or as well as, your CIBIL one.
CRIF also watches microfinance closely. It publishes a regular MicroLend report on microfinance lending trends. If most of your borrowing is small-ticket, such as a microfinance group loan, a consumer durable loan or a gold loan, check your CRIF credit report along with the others. A lender serving that segment may well look at it.
So "my CIBIL is fine" isn't the whole picture. A mistake that only sits on your CRIF report can still block one lender's approval. Small differences between bureaus are normal, and our guide to why credit scores differ between apps explains them.
How to Check Your CRIF Credit Report for Free
Every bureau must give you one free full credit report, with your score, once a calendar year under RBI rules. CRIF puts it plainly: "You are entitled to one FULL FREE ANNUAL CREDIT REPORT from CRIF once a year." Checking your own report is a soft enquiry, so it doesn't lower your score.

CRIF's free annual route takes four steps. Screens change, so follow the site's prompts.
- Open crifhighmark.com.
- Tap "Get Free Score Now".
- Fill in your personal details and an identity proof such as PAN, then answer the multiple-choice questions CRIF asks to confirm it's really you.
- View your CRIF score and report, and save a copy.
That multiple-choice step trips people up. CRIF may ask about a loan amount or a lender name from your own history. Keep your loan papers nearby.
Want more than one look a year? CRIF sells paid plans. A one-time report cost ₹118 on CRIF's personal credit score page as of October 2026 (crifhighmark.com, retrieved 2026-10-05). Prices change, so check the bureau's site before you pay.
For a free view between those checks, GroScore shows your Equifax credit score and report, and tracks them monthly. Because lenders report to every bureau, an error you find there is worth checking on your CRIF report too.
Why Is My CRIF Score Lower Than CIBIL?
Each bureau uses its own scoring model, so the same history can produce different numbers. Reporting timing adds to it. A lender's latest upload may reach one bureau before another.
A big gap is different. That usually means the CRIF credit report holds something the others don't. Here's an illustrative example, with a made-up person and figures.
Say Ramesh, 34, runs a small shop. He sees a CRIF score of 668 and a CIBIL score of 712. Arjun, GroScore's credit coach, would read his CRIF report in this order:
- A microfinance group loan he finished last year still shows an overdue balance of ₹4,200. If he has the closure receipt, that's an error, and the target is a dispute this week.
- A consumer durable loan with one 30-days-late month. It's accurate, so it stays. Clean months after it soften its effect.
- Three loan enquiries in two months. Each is a hard enquiry. The fix is simple: stop applying until the report is clean.

Illustrative example: one wrong entry can explain most of a gap.
The 44-point gap here comes mostly from item one, which exists on only one report. Fix it and the gap may narrow. No one can promise by how much, because that depends on everything else on the report.
What to Check First on Your CRIF Credit Report
Payment history codes look cryptic at first. "000" means on time, "030" means 30 days late, and remarks like STD or SUB describe the account's health. Our explainer on what STD means in CIBIL decodes each one, and the same codes appear on a CRIF report.
Start with these five checks:

Five checks catch most problems on a CRIF report.
- Loans or cards you never took. That could be an error or fraud.
- Closed loans still showing a balance or overdue amount.
- Wrong name spelling, date of birth or PAN.
- Enquiries from lenders you never approached.
- "Settled" or "written-off" remarks you didn't expect.
Found an error? CRIF's FAQ says it will send a corrected report to the lender that made the original enquiry within 30 days of your complaint. Under RBI rules, if the bureau and lender together miss that 30-day window, you can claim ₹100 for each day of delay (RBI). The full process is in our guide to fix errors in your credit report. CRIF's consumer FAQ explains its own steps.
Disputes fix errors only. An accurate late payment can't be removed early, by CRIF or anyone else. Any agency that charges to "clean" a true record is selling something the rules don't allow.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is CRIF High Mark?

Is the CRIF score important for a loan?
Yes. Every bank and NBFC must be a member of all four bureaus, and any lender can pull your CRIF report. If you mostly borrow small amounts, such as microfinance or consumer durable loans, check your CRIF report along with the others.
How can I check my CRIF credit report for free?
Go to crifhighmark.com and use the free score option. Fill in your details and ID, then answer the identity questions. You're entitled to one full free CRIF credit report each calendar year.

Is CRIF High Mark the same as CIBIL?
No. TransUnion CIBIL and CRIF are separate bureaus. Both use a 300 to 900 range, and both get data from the same lenders. See our guide comparing CIBIL vs Experian vs Equifax vs CRIF for how the four line up.
The Bottom Line
CRIF High Mark has a new name, but its report still counts when you apply for credit. Pull your free CRIF credit report once a year and match it, account by account, against your other reports.
